The midbody section, which was built in Charleston, S.C., by Global Aeronautica LLC, a joint venture with Alenia North America, was damaged "by an Alenia employee not following proper work procedures," Boeing spokeswoman Yvonne Leach said in a telephone interview.

Vedkommende som sto bak bommerten (det dreide seg om 11 feilmonterte fasteners, over et 30cm langt parti på section 44) var en innleid arbeider med god erfaring innen bransjen.

Hva skjer egentlig når et av disse karbonskrogene blir skadet? må hele seksjoner byttet ut, eller kan man lappe slik man gjør med metallskrog?

En bytter ikke ut hele seksjoner. I dette tilfellet ble området reparert med en karbonfiber-patch (som ifølge Boeing er den vanlige måten å reparere slikt på.) Skal ikke si at jeg kjenner til detaljene, men vil tippe at det går ut på å rengjøre/pusse flatt området rundt el., og legge et eller flere lag med karbonfiber over området, og så varmebehandle det (bonding.)

Carbon Hull gir meg fortsatt gåsehud etter endel opplevelser i seilbåtverden, ala "Young America" osv, og diverse caron master som har "kommet ned"..., men det er jo 10 år mer erfaring i mellom...
