Tornadoes that ripped through Wichita, Kan., on Saturday night may have thrown a wrench into Boeing's assembly lines for the 737 and 787 jetliners here in the Seattle area.

Spirit AeroSystems, which produces all 737 fuselages and the composite forward fuselage, engine pylons and wing leading-edge components for the 787 Dreamliner, was heavily damaged by the storms.

At the Boeing Co. in Wichita, Kan., spokesman Forrest Gossett said the plant "took a direct hit." He said the damage to the plant is extensive, according to a report in the Wichita Eagle.

Spirit Aerosystems, which manufactures fuselages for all Boeing 7-7 planes in production, took major damage to two buildings with six buildings significantly damaged and four others with major damage, the Wichita Eagle reported.
