Airports of Thailand will expand Chiang Mai International Airport ’s runway and aprons to accommodate large aircraft such as the B747-400, A340-600 and A340-500 used for both domestic and international services during peak periods. According to AOT, the expansion will involve land in the neighboring Royal Thai Air Force base.
Chiang Mai International Airport has a 3,100 meter long and 45 meter wide runway and a parallel taxiway known as the F driveway 2,785 meter long and 240 meter from the runway. The latest project will leng-then the runway by 300 meters while the taxiway at the northern side of the airport will be extended by 400 meters.
