Big China order for Airbus reportedly due

China may today announce an order for as many as 150 Airbus aircraft valued at $9 billion, less than a month after the country signed a 70-plane contract with Boeing.

Airbus, which is trailing Boeing in new orders this year, may announce at least part of the order today at a Paris news conference, said people familiar with the negotiations.

The European plane maker said yesterday it might open a factory in China for assembling A320 planes.

Boeing signed the 70-plane order during a visit to Beijing last month by President Bush. Boeing has since said it's in talks with the Chinese for an additional 80 planes.
