Jet aircraft to operate Eastern Airways services to Norway
October 2010

Eastern Airways is to introduce an Embraer 135 jet aircraft to operate its services between Aberdeen and Norway from 1 November 2010.

The 37-seater jet will operate the twice daily (Monday to Friday) Aberdeen to Stavanger service as well as the daily weekday service from Aberdeen to Bergen.

Timings on the Aberdeen – Bergen service have been adjusted with Eastern Airways now offering the first morning departure to leave Aberdeen for Bergen. Flights will depart from Aberdeen at 9.50am, arriving in Bergen at 11.55am local time, with departures for the return journey leaving at 12.30pm and arriving in Aberdeen at 12.35pm.

With a cruising speed of 502mph and two Rolls Royce engines, the aircraft is the fastest passenger jet available in the 30-40 seat market – and the non-stop flight to Bergen will take just 65 minutes.

Chris Holliday, Eastern Airways’ chief operating officer, said: “The Embraer jets complement our fleet and we believe a jet service on our Norwegian services from Aberdeen, with its speed and capacity, is ideal for these routes.

“Our timing changes on the Bergen route not only allow us to use the jet, but also offer the first and quickest morning flight to leave Aberdeen for Bergen. We are committed to developing routes between Aberdeen and Norway and have adjusted our offering to meet the needs of business travellers, such as those from supply chain companies in the European oil and gas industry.”

Norway is one of the world’s largest producers of oil, and Stavanger has many leading energy companies located in the city. Bergen Airport Flesland is the main heliport for the Norwegian North Sea oil and gas industry, and as home to the Institute of Marine Research (IMR) and the Royal Norwegian Navy, the city also plays a pivotal role in the maritime industry.

The airport is situated 12 miles south of Bergen and is less than half an hour from the city centre. Bergen is recognised as the gateway to Norway’s world famous fjords of Norway and has become one of Europe's largest ports of call for cruise ships.

Eastern Airways has a fleet of 30 aircraft consisting of eight Saab 2000, two Embraer 135 jets and 20 Jetstream 41 aircraft. These aircraft are used on its UK domestic network, Norwegian scheduled services, as well as private charter flights.

Ikke helt korrekt det Eastern sier i pressemeldingen. 2 daglige rundturer ABZ-SVG-ABZ, men bare den første er med ERJ. Den andre er med SAAB 2000. BGO får en med ERJ.
