Siam Reap Airways - sikkert flyselskap?

Kona og jeg lurer på å ta en liten reise rundt i Østen og vi har blant annet lyst å stikke innom Angkor Wat. Men på Siam Reap sine hjemmesider står det følgende nå (se under). Betyr dette at alle deres fly foreløpig er satt på bakken? Er dette et useriøst flyselskap?

Siem Reap Airways International (FT) has issued a statement to clarify the issue announced by the European Union Commission (EU) that the airline is banned from flying into the EU countries with Cambodian-registered aircraft due to inadequate compliance to safety standards.

Mr. Lao Santi, the airline’s General Manager, said that “The ban is only subject to FT aircraft registered in Cambodia. As a matter of fact, none of the aircraft operating FT services has been registered in the Kingdom, as they are entirely operated on a wet-leased basis, at and to international standards”.

The ban has apparently appeared on the announcement’s Annex A (http://air-ban.europa.eu) which states that “Air carriers listed in the Annex A could be permitted to exercise traffic rights by using wet-leased aircraft of an air carrier which is not subject to an operating ban, provided that the relevant safety standards are complied with.”

This exactly describes the current FT operation.

The airline is in the process of clarifying the situation with the EU. In the mean time, FT continues to operate normally. The aircraft and third-party liability remain under full insurance coverage.

Due to Siem Reap Airways clarifies the EU ban, Siem Reap Airways has to suspend all dometic and international flights as follow:

* 22 November 2008 : Phnom Penh - Siem Reap / Siem Reap - Phnom Penh
* 1 December 2008 : All internation flights.
