Fra Air Transport World:
Iberia last week said it is pushing back delivery of 4-5 "short- and medium-haul aircraft" for at least a year as delays in the expansion of Madrid Barajas and the restructuring of its competitors have disrupted its 2005 growth plans, Reuters reported. The aircraft have been ordered from Airbus but the contract includes an option to delay delivery. According to the report,
CEO Angel Mullor said Iberia's average income per passenger has fallen more than 20% in the last two years and will continue to decline as the carrier matches its rivals' cost-cutting plans. "We are seeing that the growth projects that we had in our current cost-cutting situation are unviable," the news agency quoted Mullor as saying.
