Air Iceland (NY), a subsidiary of Icelandair Group, has purchased three Bombardier Dash Q400 turboprops that are to be delivered in July and August. Air Iceland already had two Q200 in its fleet. The Q400s will be replacing five Fokker F50 which will mark the end of decades long operation of Fokker planes on domestic routes in Iceland. The new Q400 will at least be used for the domestic routes RKV-AEY and RKV-EGS and potentially also for flights to Greenland, the Faroes or even western Norway. The Q400 has 78 seats vs 50 seats on the F50 and flies higher and faster than the Fokker so it will be interesting to see how it affects the operations of Air Iceland.
