Legacy full-service carriers in Europe have so far largely eschewed the fee-happy practices of their U.S.-based counterparts. Bags still fly for free on most airlines, but that may not be lasting too much longer, though, at least according to Sadiq Gillani, Senior Vice President of Group Strategy & Development at Lufthansa.

“We’re three or four years behind…we have a long way to go…but we’re catching up,” he said at a panel discussion Friday morning at the Phoenix International Aviation Symposium in Scottsdale, Arizona.
