Default Ringer bak DC-8-(33) motorene

På endel av de tidligere DC-8 modellene, som her en -33, så har de noen ringer som står bak motorene. Var disse mot støy eller drivstofforbruk? Og hvordan fungerte de?

Var vell for å redusere støy visst jeg ikke husker feil.
De fungerer ved å blande den kalde og varme luften raskere. Dette har en lyddempende effekt.

Man kan vell kanskje si at dette var forgjengeren til Boeings tagger på 787 og 748.

One was to cover/uncover the reverser buckets (before the reversers could be used, these had to be deployed), and the other was for reducing noise during takeoff and landing. In simple terms, the exhaust coming out of the back of the engine would get mixed and enveloped by fresh outside air, then go through the ejectors (which had some noise muffling materials as well) which would reduce the exhaust noise.

Det var alle modellene før DC-8-50 som hadde slike motorer, de kalte de vel for "tubojetmotorer" i de gode gamle dager..
(tilsvarende også med B707-120, -200 og -320/-420, og den opprinnelige B720)

De var nok ikke så veldig opptatt av å dempe støy på 50-tallet (?), men behovet var der absolutt! Jeg kan bekrefte at man hørte godt når DC-8-33 tok av fra FBU, og det er sikkert en del andre som har mer øresus enn jeg har
