Bombardier Signs Firm Order With Regco For Ten Q400 Airliners Valued At $250 Million US Toronto, February 01, 2006 Potential value of $500 million US if all options exercised Bombardier Aerospace announced today that REGCO Holdings Inc. of Toronto has signed a contract to acquire ten 70-seat Bombardier Q400 high-speed turboprop airliners and take options on an additional ten aircraft. The list price value for the ten aircraft on firm order is approximately $250 million US. The contract has a potential list price value of approximately $500 million US if all ten options are exercised. REGCO will publicly announce its plans for the aircraft on February 2, 2006. A media advisory will be issued later today to provide details relating to REGCO’s announcement. “The Bombardier Q400 has won praise from airlines for its economics, speed and passenger comfort,” said Robert Deluce, President and Chief Executive Officer, REGCO. “It fits our operational plans exceedingly well.” “We are immensely proud that this new Toronto airline has chosen this Toronto-built, world-leading aircraft, the Bombardier Q400,” said Steven Ridolfi, President, Bombardier Regional Aircraft. “This extraordinary regional aircraft has led a resurgence in turboprop travel around the world. It has everything –- jet-like speed, quiet comfort, environmental friendliness, low fuel burn, and the lowest operating costs of any regional aircraft. There is no other turboprop that can compete with the Q400 aircraft in this arena.” The 360-knot (667 km/h) cruise speed and capacity of the Q400 provides airlines with greater revenue-generating opportunities in both traditional and low cost markets and extends an airline’s reach well beyond traditional turboprop markets. The superior operating economics of the Q400 enable it to compete effectively against established low cost carriers. The order announced today increases Q400 firm orders to 175 aircraft. Toronto City gets new startup; Air Canada initiates offensive
Mary Kirby, Philadelphia (02Feb06, 19:13 GMT, 423 words) Canada’s REGCO Holdings has secured C$125 million ($109 million) in equity financing to support Porter Airlines, its long-planned startup that will launch short-haul service from Toronto City Center Airport (TCCA). But the new entrant carrier - which will be chaired by former American Airlines chairman and CEO Don Carty - is facing stiff competition from its inception, with Air Canada today launching an offensive that includes “a substantial increase” of frequencies from TCCA to Canada’s capital Ottawa and reinstated service to Montreal. New investors in Porter include EdgeStone Capital Partners, Borealis Infrastructure - investing on behalf of the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System - and REGCO Capital, a company controlled by REGCO president and CEO Robert Deluce. With this backing, REGCO today officially signed a deal at Bombardier’s Toronto manufacturing plant for 10 Q400 turboprops and ten options to support Porter’s inauguration of service from TCCA to Canadian and US destinations later this year. It also signed a long-term lease agreement with TCAA operator Toronto Port Authority (TPA) to use the airport’s facilities. REGCO tentatively agreed the Q400 order in April 2003 with plans for launching services one year later. But the order was then predicated on the construction of a bridge connecting TCCA with downtown Toronto. TCAA is located on the northern tip of Toronto Islands, which is in the city’s inner harbor on Lake Ontario. The bridge never materialized due to political opposition. Instead TPA has agreed to improve access to TCCA with the construction of new ferry passenger transfer facilities and the purchase of a new ferry capable of carrying more vehicles and passengers to the airport. Air Canada today applauded the TPA’s decision, saying the company, through its regional partner Air Canada Jazz, will “re-instate flights previously cancelled due to the lack of demand caused by inadequate access to the airport under the existing ferry service”. Meanwhile, Porter is promoting TCAA as “a convenient alternative to [Toronto’s] Pearson International Airport”. It says destination cities and flight schedules will be announced at a later date. “This is a great day for Toronto’s aviation industry and, more importantly, the flying public,” says Deluce. “Porter looks forward to serving customers and contributing to the Toronto economy. Our presence at the TCCA improves the city’s competitiveness by allowing passengers to have direct access to downtown, stimulating business and tourism throughout the city.” He adds that the company is “tremendously fortunate to have Don Carty leading our board of directors”, noting that “his advice and experience will be invaluable as we develop our airline”.
