The number of passengers using airports in Poland grew by 10 percent during the first quarter of the year claim reports this week.

The large rise in passengers is even more significant considering that numbers around the rest of Europe only increased by as much as 3.2 percent, according to statistics by the Association of International Airports (ACI).

The biggest leap in figures was witnessed at Rzeszow airport which served around 109,000 people during the fist three months of 2012 - 28.5 percent more than 12 months previous.

Experts state that one of the reasons behind the rise is the fact that more and more people are choosing to use domestic flights instead of trains.

During this period, domestic traffic grew by 15.8 percent, while international flights grew by 4 percent.
