Default Ny RyanAir base

Ryanair launches 18 routes from Denmark to Europe

Ryanair, Europe’s largest low fares airline today (Saturdayday, 1st April 2006) announced the last of its new route announcements for Summer 2006 by selecting Billund Airport as effectively its 17th European base. Ryanair which is now Europes’s largest airline has until today confined its operations in Denmark to UK routes. However, from July 2006 the airline will base 5 new Boeing 737-800 series aircraft in Billund. These new aircraft will generate over 250 direct Ryanair jobs at Billund Airport, they will allow Ryanair to open up 18 new routes from Billund - Denmarks second largest airport to Continental Europe, this additional capacity will allow Ryanair’s traffic in Denmark to grow from ½m to 3m passengers annually .

New Routes from Billund – 2006
FRANCE - Paris, Montpellier, Carcassonne (2pw)

GERMANY - Frankfurt (Hahn)

POLAND - Krakow and Wroclaw

ITALY - Milan (Bergamo) and Venice (Treviso)

SPAIN - Valencia, Girona (Barcelona), Mahon (summer only), Malaga (5pw)

AUSTRIA - Salzbug (winter only)

PORTUGAL - Porto (3pw), Faro (4pw)

SLOVAKIA - Bratislava

IRELAND - Dublin

UK - London (Stansted) and Liverpool

These new routes at Billund Airport will see Ryanair’s traffic into/out of Denmark rise to over 3m passengers annually over the coming year. These new routes will also afford Danish consumers and visitors the opportunity of travelling between Denmark and Europe at low fares which are half the price of SAS's tickets and with frequencies that are in most cases greater than the frequencies offered by SAS and their high price partners.

Ryanair expect no difficulties in recruiting pilots and and other staffe for the Danish bas as much smaller semi-low-price-carrier Sterling is in a process of laying of several crew to lack of demand for their mediocre product.

Speaking today in Billund at the announcement of the development of these new routes from Billund to Europe, Ryanair’s Chief Executive, Michael O’Leary said:

“This is a momentous day for Ryanair, the Billund Airport Authority and Danish tourism. This is the largest ever single investment in Danish tourism. The 5 new aircraft to be based in Billund represent an investment of over $300m. The 18 new routes to Europe, will mean an additional 1.5m passengers p.a. at Danish Airports, over 1 million of which will be inbound visitors for Danish tourism. Danish consumers can now look forward to high frequency, low fare access to a wide network of destinations direct from Billund to Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden and the UK. All of these flights go on sale today at www.ryanair.com at prices that are half the high fares being charged by SAS ans Sterling. Ryanair will continue to offer Danish consumers and visitors substantially lower fares from Billund to Europe than the high fare services presently operated by SAS and Sterling.

“Ryanair’s average fare of DKK139 is less than half Sterlings's average European fare of DKK389. Ryanair now offers more routes and services than Sterling to both the UK and now Continental Europe.

In a comment today Mr Bjarne Hansen (Chairman of Billund Airport) expressed his pleasure in having Ryanair amongst it's custumers. "Ryanair will complement the number of routes served from Billund - Denmarks most efficient airport. We look forward to seeing Ryanair establish themselves here, and are most pleased to note that a lot of good pilots and cabin attendents can now look forward to being based here in Billund along with a number of technical support staff"

Jøss ..

Nå er vel Maersk-Møller overlykkelig over at han solgte flyselskapet sitt før han tapte enda mer.
