German carrier Aero Flight files for insolvency

German carrier Aero Flight has filed for insolvency less than a month after civil aviation administration regulators refused to renew the airline’s air operator’s certificate.

Aero Flight emerged from the remnants of collapsed charter operator Aero Lloyd, which itself suspended operations in October 2003 after its main shareholder opted to discontinue funding the carrier.

Frankfurt-based law firm Hermann has been appointed as the insolvency administrator for the airline, but the company says that it is too early to discuss specific details about the carrier’s prospects.

Based in Oberursel, Aero Flight has a fleet of six International Aero Engines V2500-powered aircraft comprising four 174-seat Airbus A320s and two 210-seat A321s.

Both A321s are owned by US lessor International Lease Finance (ILFC). Two of the A320s are leased from CIT Aerospace, while the other two are from Aviation Capital Group and Bavaria International Aircraft Leasing.

Aero Flight, which employs 350 personnel, had been operating from several German airports to holiday destinations primarily in the Mediterranean, Balkans and Russia.
