Finnair names new CEO

Finnair has named Jukka Hienonen as its new CEO, effective 1 January.

The Oneworld alliance carrier says in a stock exchange statement that Hienonen will take over immediately after current president and CEO Keijo Suila retires as previously announced on 31 December.

Hienonen, 43, is executive VP of Finnish department store operator Stockmann Oy. He joined Stockmann in 1995.

“Jukka Hienonen has solid managerial experience of customer service as well as wide experience of international trade,” says the carrier.

Finnair chairman Christoffer Taxell adds of the outgoing CEO: “Suila has very successfully piloted Finnair through difficult years for the airline industry and he saw early on the growth opportunities in Asian traffic.

“During Suila’s time as president and CEO, Finnair’s Asian traffic has quadrupled and new growth has also been achieved in the Scandinavian market.”
