Norwegian All signs point to growth at Norwegian

Heisann!

En god artikkel i ATW Daily News i dag;

Norwegian continues to report rising traffic, load factors and yield despite the downturn and is committed to continuing to challenge SAS for market share.

Fresh off an improved first quarter (ATWOnline, April 27), the carrier transported 861,530 passengers in April, an 18% increase year-over-year. Load factor rose 3 points to 79% and yield was up 6% to NOK0.63 (9.69 cents). It took delivery of its 44rh aircraft, a 737-800, last month.

CFO Frode Foss said the recession may be boosting Norwegian, describing the market as difficult but one that offers opportunities for an LCC. "We now stimulate demand by offering cheaper airfares," he said. "Norwegian is still a young company. Our key is to optimize all of our resources. Unit costs are down to NOK0.51, which is a very good cost base."

SAS's business model also may be playing a role. "Our competitor has a totally different set up," he said. "Norwegian works with high utilization, point-to-point traffic. It is a good time for low-cost carriers in a marketplace like this."

Expansion is possible as well, with any destination within range of its -800 a possibility. Foss said flights to Dubai from Oslo Fornebu and Stockholm Arlanda are "interesting" and will be maintained. DY's ARN-based subsidiary, formerly FlyNordic but now rebranded as Norwegian.se, struggled last year but he said replacement of its MD-80s with more 737s will help.

The carrier opened its Copenhagen base last fall following the collapse of Sterling Airlines (ATWOnline, Oct. 30, 2008) and will look to increase its presence there as well. It has five aircraft at CPH at present. "It is a difficult marketplace but there is no reason for us not to expand," Foss said. Norwegian won ATW's 2009 Market Leadership Award (ATW, February 2009).

Tja, spesielt interessant og spennende artikkel er det vel ikke siden det er referat av allerede kjente tall, samt positive uttalelser fra selskapet selv. Noe annet fra den kanten ville vært svært overraskende

Hei TCAS!

Beklager, men vi ligger litt etter her borte i Texas...

Poenget, selv om noe av dette kommer fra Norwegian selv og tallene er allerede ute, er at ATW har en litt stoerre omsetning i denne industrien enn Lierposten...
