Aaliyah Williams turned 8 Saturday and took the trip of a lifetime -- a 15-minute flight to the North Pole to visit Santa. Mrs. Claus greets Aaliyah and eight of her 16 siblings at the North Pole terminal, which looks strikingly similar to Gate 20 at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. Continental employees for 15 years have raised money and volunteered their time to fulfill the fantasy for children being treated by Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center and Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital.

An announcement came over the intercom: "Ladies and gentlemen . . . we are United Sleigh Ride One with nonstop service to the North Pole."

The aircraft shook as it sped down the runway. Just as the plane was about to lift off, its engines were put in reverse and the intercom announced that the plane had reached its destination. Passengers erupted with applause and cheers. They disembarked to several gates that had been transformed into a winter wonderland: There were Christmas trees, arts and crafts, face painting, music and food.
