Et sudansk passasjerfly er kapret

Passasjerflyet ble kapret kort tid etter avgang fra Nyala, som er den største byen i Darfur. Flyet Khartoum, Sudans hovedstad da det ble kapret.

- Flyet tok av fra Nyala klokken 16.40 lokal tid på vei til Khartoum, sier en ansatt i flyselskapet til AFP på betingelse av anonymitet.

- Etter 20 minutter i luften anropte piloten flyplassen der og fortalte at flyet var kapret, og at han hadde endret kursen til Tripoli i Libya, fortsatte den flyselskapsansatte.

Hamza Hasan er sjef for sikkerhet i selskapet, og sier det var 95 passasjerer om bord 737-maskinen.

Sun Air har ingen opplysninger om hvem som står bak kapringen. Ifølge Hasan hadde flyet begrenset drivstoff, siden flyet ble sendt videre til Tripoli etter først å ha prøvd å lande i Kairo.

A Sudanese plane has been hijacked shortly after take-off from Nyala, in Darfur region, Sudanese civil aviation officials have said.

The plane was on its way to Khartoum, but has landed in Libya, after first trying to land in Cairo, reports say.

Aviation officials in Khartoum told the BBC the plane belonged to Sudanese airline Sun Air and there were 95 people on board.

The officials said members of a former Darfur rebel group were on the plane.

A Sudanese security official said a man with a knife had hijacked the plane, The Associated Press news agency reported.

Aviation officials said the plane had landed at the Libyan oasis town of Kufra, in the desert near the border with Sudan.

The hijacking follows a Monday attack involving Sudanese government troops at the Kalma refugee camp, 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) from Nyala. It was unclear whether the incidents are related.

The United Nations African Mission in Darfur said the government of Sudan reported that its military and police forces were granted a search warrant for drugs and weapons and raided the camp in executing the warrants. UNAMID said 60 government vehicles surrounded the camp.

The refugees resisted the government's attempts to enter the camp, however, and "the situation escalated into confrontation and exchange of gunfire, with no indication as to who started it." The gunfire lasted about two hours, UNAMID said.

"On the basis of information provided to the UNAMID team while on site, the casualty toll amounted to 64 killed and 117 wounded, of which 49 were evacuated by UNAMID to the Nyala hospital," the organization said in a written statement.
