USA United og JetBlue med mulig samarbeid

Quote:
United Airlines and JetBlue are seeking a partnership, with United focusing on JFK

United Airlines and JetBlue are negotiating a strategic partnership that includes United acquiring access to approximately 20 daily slot pairs at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) (reported by Corriere Della Sera*). The initial phase of the partnership focuses on frequent-flyer reciprocity, allowing members of both airlines’ loyalty programs to earn and redeem points across both carriers. This move aligns with United’s goal to re-establish a presence at JFK, where it has not operated significantly since suspending service in 2022 due to insufficient slots. United’s CEO, Scott Kirby, has expressed interest in returning to JFK to strengthen the airline’s competitive position in the New York market, though he noted the regulatory challenges of such expansion.

The partnership is seen as a multi-phase strategy. Beyond frequent flyer benefits, it could involve United leasing slots and potentially two gates from JetBlue to support operations at JFK. There is also speculation about a long-term vision, with reports suggesting United might consider a full acquisition of JetBlue under favorable regulatory conditions. However, these plans remain speculative and face significant regulatory scrutiny, especially after JetBlue’s previous Northeast Alliance with American Airlines was blocked in 2023 for anti-competitive reasons.

For JetBlue, the partnership offers a chance to bolster its financial position, as the airline has struggled with profitability, posting profits in only two of the past nine quarters. The deal could provide revenue from slot leasing and enhance connectivity for its customers through United's broader network.

Two major U.S. airlines are joining forces in a blockbuster partnership. United Airlines will team up with JetBlue in a new alliance they are calling "Blue Sky," the carriers announced Thursday.

The alliance will include a full-blown loyalty partnership that will allow United MileagePlus and JetBlue TrueBlue members the ability to earn and redeem miles on either carrier. Plus, United Premier elite members will be able to enjoy their status benefits when flying on JetBlue. JetBlue's Mosaic members will get the same treatment on board United.

As part of the new arrangement, United and JetBlue will also be able to sell each other's flights on their own websites, including connections between the two carriers.

Hva er forskjellen på dette samarbeidet og det som var mellom American og JetBlue?

Slik jeg forstår det er ikke samarbeidet like «dypt» og koordinert. Og de dermed satser på de ikke får problemer med godkjenning
