SAS SAS Langdistanse før og nå...

Nå som SAS igjen ekspanderer kraftig på langdistanse hadde det vært fint å sammenligne Langdistanse før og nå. Det er vel enda et stykke igjen til SAS er sammenlignbar det nettverket de fløy i storhetsdagene, med både Afrika og Sør Amerika på kartet.

Hvordan er størrelsen på SAS flyflåte, daglige seter og ruter opp mot tidligere dager?

Polar

Besides several landing strips used by DC-6s and DC-7Cs, SAS has operated scheduled flights to Søndre Strømfjord (60s - 2002) and Thule (90s).

A number of the destinations in Africa were technical stops en route to South America, but tickets were sold to these destinations as well. During the 60s-early 80s, most intercontinental routes to Africa, South America, Middle East and in some cases Asia, went through either Düsseldorf, Zürich/Geneva and/or Athens before leaving Europe. Most services originated in Copenhagen and all flights routed through ZRH/GVA were operated in pool with Swissair, SAS' best friend at the time.

Ikke helt sikker - men mange av rutene i " gamle dager" gikk ikke daglig.

Strukturen var helt annerledes, så sammenligning er rimelig umulig. Mange av rutene hadde flere stopp og gikk med lave frekvenser. Destinasjonene var dessuten heller ikke alltid drevet av økonomiske forhold, men hva som passet styremedlemmene best. Mange av disse var innen skipsfart, og ville ha SAS til steder hvor de byttet crew.

Litt som den gang PanAm hadde en rute til en liten stripe på Bahamas bare fordi 'firmahytta' til direktørene lå der .. Eller da UA nylig fløy mellom Newark og Columbia SC ...

I 1970rne havde SK to mælkeruter, SK983 og SK985, som hver fløj en gang om ugen fra CPH, ned over Europa,
over Mellemøsten, Indien og Fjernøsten. De to routings var ikke ens, men de 'terminerede' begge i Tokyo,
hvis jeg husker rigtigt. Dengang kunne du vække en SAS-ansat (i hvert fald i salg og i stationen) kl. 3. om natten,
og de kunne de to ruter uden ad, og i øvrigt måtte man også huske, mellem hvilke byer, de havde trafikrettigheder,
d.v.s hvor de kunne flyve pay load!

Endvidere fløj SK ganske rigtigt CPH-BGI-POS en overgang, længe før det blev fint og eksklusivt at holde ferie på Barbados.
Nogle må have brugt den, for den fløj da i nogle år!

Seattle kom ikke paa rutekartet foer i 1966 - SAS var foerste Non-stop til Europa fra Seattle. Montreal var ogsaa paa 60 tallet - Chicago gikk via Montreal begge veier - og paa 50 tallet ble SAS sin DC-7 floeyet videre fra Chicago til Minneapolis av United, som en United / SAS rute - fant en brosjyre paa lageret til SAS kontoret i Chicago som reklamerte for denne tidlige Code share.
