Da ser det ut som Singapore Airlines blir neste selskap med Premium Economy. Planlagt introduksjon er i midten av 2015, nå de får neste batch av 77W, men at A380 og A350 også vil få det.

Singapore Airlines will launch premium economy on its Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A380 superjumbo fleet, as well as the forthcoming Airbus A350 jets.

The new premium economy seats and cabin will be launched in the second half of next year, the airline revealed this morning.

Vel, nå syns jeg Y hos SQ = C hos flere selskap, og definitivt Y+ hos alle selskap. Er ikke uten grunn at SQ ofte blir sett på som "best practice".

But the key driver is the corporate sector and the increasing popularity of premium economy in some of SIA’s most important markets. SIA has studied premium economy several times over the years but repeatedly decided against introducing the product, driven primarily by a fear of cannibalising business class sales. But over the years the premium economy market has gradually matured, making it less of a niche play and a product regularly requested by corporate travel buyers. SIA executives say they have identified specific market segments for premium economy, primarily the corporate and upmarket leisure sectors, and plan to offer it on long-haul and some medium-haul segments.

SIA has seen more and more of its competitors introduce premium economy, generally with success. It could not afford to not join the party.

Australia and the UK are particularly big markets for SIA and for premium economy. With local carriers Qantas and British Airways offering premium economy, SIA has been at a disadvantage in selling to Australian and British corporates, particularly those that have put in place travel policies authorising premium economy on long-haul flights but no longer authorising business class. With Australia accounting for 18% of SIA’s ASKs and the UK accounting for 9%, these markets are simply too important to miss out on any segment.

SIA competitors on routes to continental Europe also have been introducing premium economy including Air France and Lufthansa. But the biggest sway for SIA was likely archrival Cathay Pacific, which introduced premium economy in 2012.

Nå er ikke selve produktet sluppet ennå, men det er som kjent A380 og 777-300ER som i første omgang får premium economy på A380 blir konfigurasjonen endret fra F12 J60 Y399 og F12 J86 Y311 til F12 J60 S36 Y333 og F12 J86 S36 Y245 avhengig av hvilken A380 det er da SQ har to forskjellige konfigurasjoner, Men uansett tas all plassen fra economy. På 777-300ER går konfigurasjonen fra F8 J42 Y228 til F4 J48 S28 Y184, så her fjernes både halvparten av first setene og 44 economy seter, for og gjøre plass til 28 Y+ seter, samt øke business med 6

SIA's gamble on premium economy seats pays off.

The trend has pushed not just SIA to embark on an aggressive expansion of its premium economy offerings, but also encouraged other carriers to offer the product on their flights to Singapore. By the end of March next year, 74 of SIA’s 117 aircraft – 63 per cent of its total fleet – will come with a premium economy cabin.

Other foreign airlines offering a premium economy cabin in the Singapore market include;
Air France, Air New Zealand, All Nippon Airways, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, EVA Air, Japan Airlines, Lufthansa and Qantas.

De fleste unntatt Turkish tror jeg gjør det bra her. Mener BA tidligere har sagt at på Premium Economy var det de tjente best på per kvadratmeter ombord

Singapore Airlines gjør noen oppgraderinger på Premium Economy, primært på mat og drikkefronten. Ingen enorme endringer men litt bedre kvalitet og utvalg.
