VietJetAir (VJ, Hanoi) CEO Do Xuan Quang says his airline's planned cargo operation - VietJetAir Cargo - will likely use a combination of B737 freighters and A330-200(F)s while seeking partnerships with other carriers on longhaul routes.

“VietjetAir Cargo is now handling all passenger belly capacity. At the end of 2014, our fleet will be 20 A320s, and will reach to 30 A320s in 2015, and to 40 in 2016. We will be expanding our global network, and planning to operate freighter feeders with B737-300(F)/B737-400(F)s, as well as mid-range A330-200Fs in the Asia region,” Do told the Loadstar publication.

New aircraft will be wet-leased in the first year and dry-leased in the second with the long term aim of acquiring its freight fleet outright, he said.

Meanwhile, VietJetAir has yet to make a decision on whether or not it will acquire a fleet of SSJ 100-95s from Sukhoi Civil Aircraft (Moscow Zhukovsky). In September, Russia's Deputy Industry and Trade Minister, Viktor Evtukhov, announced a tentative sale of the regional jet to the budget carrier as well as Vietnam Airlines (VN, Hanoi).

“We have received a business offer. We are considering it at the moment. A final decision has not been made yet,” Deputy Chairman Hung Nguyen Thanh told Russia's TASS news agency.

In a bid to stimulate its slowing aircraft industry, Russia has held a series of roadshows for its products culminating in the announcement of potential orders for the Super Jet in Indonesia, Laos and Vietnam.

As it stands, VietJetAir is an all-Airbus Industrie (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) operator whose fleet consists of seventeen A320-200s used on internal Vietnamese flights as well to South Korea, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, and Taiwan.
