Wall Street Journal: CO is a good airline to fly in a snowstorm

The Wall Street Journal reported this week that not all airlines are equal, when it comes to operating around bad weather.

“When storms disrupt travel, some airlines are more aggressive than others,” the article said. “Just as some travelers prefer to wait out storms in comfort and certainty while others fight to get there as quickly as possible, airlines make the same choices and fly different courses in storm situations.”

When snow crippled the East Coast last weekend, CO operated as many flights as was safely possible, while American (AA) and United (UA) were “quick to cancel.” The article said CO operated 90 percent of its flights Saturday before the storm hit. On the other hand, UA canceled nearly 40 percent of its scheduled flights, and AA canceled nearly 30 percent.

CO was among the first airlines to recover after the storm. The article said CO operated more than 80 percent of its schedule Monday, which was better than both AA and UA.
