Ryanair (FR, Dublin International (DUB)) has confirmed talks with the European Commission about giving up slots and potentially traffic rights allowing cariers such as British Airways (BA, London Heathrow (LHR)) and Virgin Atlantic (VS, London Heathrow (LHR)) to compete on routes from Dublin International (DUB) if a transaction to acquire Aer Lingus (EI, Dublin International (DUB)) would also gain existing Aer Lingus shareholder approval. Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi International (AUH)) meanwhile publicly declared its interest in starting talks with Ryanair about a potential acquisition of the 30% stake Ryanair currently holds in Aer Lingus should Ryanair be interested to sell if it does not win shareholder and EC support.
