Default Re: Kabinansatte i Ryanair tjener dårligere enn norske minstepensjonister.

Hi Mark.
I am glad that you enjoy Norway and want to live in our country. I also have no doubt that making ends meet with a wage at this level is extremely difficult when living in Norway.

Having said that, and this may sound a bit cynical, I wonder what made you go into this line of work in the first place, since I would have thought that the conditions involved were publicised by Ryanair before you signed the contract entering into the training course and then entered into emplyment with Ryanair? Some people more cynical than me would perhaps remind you that it is not a slave contract, but a contract one voluntarily enters into. It is neither, on the face of it, an offer you cannot refuse. So why do it? Ryanair's reputation is not exactly the best when it comes to what they treat their employees.

Being paid a wage that is under the poverty line is of course not good. I therefore struggle to understand how Ryanair manages to recruit people, but maybe they are not entirely accurate in terms of the conditions offered? (although there seems to be plenty of "negative" inputs at various internet sites on Ryanair, where one should perhaps be able to pick up this kind of information?)

As for how much one should earn, now that is an entirely different question. Someone (not necessarily our Someone...) earns perhaps 100k more than another worker in a different department for doing pretty much the same job, and that is sometimes a result of supply and demand. If nobody accepted Ryanair's offers then they would be forced to up their salary offers. The problem is, of course, that the "barriers to entry" into this line of work is low, as for many other low paid jobs. A wage level below a minimum pensioner's pay is naturally not something to write home about...

It is neither to be expected that an employer pays for Norwegian language lessons, and I understand that it is difficult to find a job without speaking the language sufficiently good. This is, however, a situation many finds themselves in.

Sorry for the rather cynical view.
