The 787 will be at least 20 percent more fuel-efficient than the existing 767, which it will replace. It will also save airlines about 30 percent on maintenance because the composite material will not fatigue or corrode like metal.

That was a "huge" factor in the decision by First Choice Airways to order the Dreamliner, said Chris Browne, managing director of the British airline that carries passengers to vacation destinations. It will be the first airline in Europe to take delivery of the 787 next year.

She and other 787 customers will attend a Boeing dinner party Saturday evening at the Museum of Flight near Boeing Field.

On Sunday, they will join about 15,000 Boeing 787 workers, along with past and current Boeing executives, at the Everett plant for the rollout, which begins about 3:30 p.m. (00.30 mandag morgen, norsk tid)

Boeing is expecting an additional 20,000 or more employees and their guests to watch the event live at Qwest Field.

It will be shown on the Internet, at boeing.com, and broadcast live on DirectTV, Dish Network and via Direct-to-Home satellite.
