Videreutviklingen av KC-390 fortsetter- Nå ønsker man å sertifisere det for brannslukking. Den første testen med bruk av modulbaserte vanntanker (Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System -MAFFS) er nå gjennomført. Dette er forøvrig samme type system som brukes på C-130 Hercules.
